What to Look For When Buying Drone Light Show Drones

Every drone light show system looks similar on a spec sheet. A few numbers actually change what you can sell and what each show costs you to run, and a few impressive-sounding ones barely matter. If you are buying a fleet, these are the specs worth arguing about.
Flight time sets your show length
Hover time is the ceiling on everything. A drone that hovers for twenty-two minutes lets you fly a show of around fifteen minutes with real margin for takeoff, positioning, and landing. Shorter flight times force shorter shows or more batteries and more swaps. Ask for hover time with the LED payload running, not a bare-airframe number.
Positioning accuracy decides how the show looks
Positioning is what separates a crisp image in the air from a fuzzy one. Centimeter-level GPS lets you set takeoff grids tighter and fly drones closer together in the air, which makes shapes read clearly and lets you fly in smaller sites. Loose positioning means wider spacing, bigger launch areas, and softer images.

Setup time and transport are your real operating cost
This is the spec buyers underestimate most. Setup time and transport footprint determine crew size, vehicle cost, and how many shows you can physically do in a week. A system that unloads from a few cases and sets up in about an hour is a fundamentally different business than one that needs a box truck and a long call time. Over a season, that difference is larger than the purchase price gap.
Weather tolerance protects your revenue
A cancelled show costs you the revenue and the client. Rain resistance and wind tolerance are what let you fly on a marginal night instead of refunding. Ask specifically what conditions the system is rated to fly in, and what the operator is expected to do when the forecast turns.
Software and support
You will spend more hours in the design software than on any other part of the job. Ask what is included, whether licensing is ongoing, how animations are built, and what support looks like when something goes wrong the afternoon of a show. A cheap fleet with poor software and no support is not cheap.
