Drone Light Shows in Salt Lake City

A drone light show gives a Salt Lake City event a finale the whole crowd remembers. Illuminate Drones is based in Utah, and we have flown for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra at the Delta Center, so home crowds along the Wasatch Front are a natural fit for a show in the sky.

Drone shows across Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City hosts sporting events, festivals, conventions, and corporate celebrations year-round, across downtown, the Salt Palace, Park City, and Provo. A drone light show is built around your event, with custom shapes, logos, and colors set to music, flown safely in front of the crowd.

Indoor and outdoor drone shows

Indoor shows fit arenas, convention halls, and corporate venues. Outdoor shows fit stadiums, parks, and large public events. See our indoor and outdoor drone light shows.

Most indoor shows run $25,000 to $30,000 and most outdoor shows $25,000 to $35,000. See how much a drone light show costs, or request a quote for your Salt Lake City event.

Flying inside the Delta Center

The Delta Center opened in October 1991 and seats 18,186 for basketball and 16,020 for hockey. It is home to the Utah Jazz and to the NHL's Utah Mammoth, a franchise that has played in the building since 2024. Smith Entertainment Group began a multi-year rebuild in April 2025. The summer 2026 work concentrated on the north and northeast end of the arena. The summer 2027 phase adds a sloped section connecting the lower and upper levels, and by the end of the project every seat is being replaced and reconfigured so the sightlines work for both basketball and hockey.

For an indoor show, an arena bowl is the friendliest room in the city. There is real vertical space above the floor, a rigging grid is already hung, and the crowd sits in a ring looking in rather than in rows looking forward. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra arena tour is on our client list, and that is where we learned how a room this size reads once the house lights drop. Bring us into the production meeting early. Scoreboard position, truss height and the timing of the house light cue drive the design far more than the square footage of the floor does.

The Salt Palace, and what changes in 2027

The Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center holds 515,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit hall plus a 45,000 square foot ballroom, and all of that space sits under a 30 foot ceiling. Downtown conventions lean on it hard. Silicon Slopes ran its 2026 SUMMIT from February 4 to 7 across a set of downtown rooms that included the Salt Palace and the Eccles Theater, which is exactly the kind of multi-venue week where an indoor show earns its place as the closing moment.

Plan around the closure. Construction starts in spring 2027, the building goes fully dark that fall, and completion is expected in January 2031. It is part of a $1.8 billion downtown redevelopment that includes a $55.4 million sale of the western edge of the site to Smith Entertainment Group. FanX has already said it will move to the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy, which offers 243,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space under 30 foot ceilings. If your event lives at the Salt Palace, get indoor dates on the books before fall 2027.

Ceiling clearance decides an indoor show, not floor area

The number that governs an indoor show is the clear height under the lowest obstruction, not the size of the floor plan. A 30 foot exhibit hall is workable, and the picture reads best when the audience is seated and close to it. An arena bowl gives far more room to build upward, which is why the same budget looks bigger inside the Delta Center than inside a hall of similar square footage. We walk the room, measure to the sprinklers and the lighting truss, and set the flight volume from what is actually clear.

Corporate and convention clients make up most of our indoor work. Oracle NetSuite is on our client list, and the pattern repeats across those bookings: a general session or a closing party, a logo the room has been looking at all week, and a need for something the audience will actually record. Our indoor drone light shows page at /indoor-shows covers how those runs are built and what a venue has to provide.

Utah fire restrictions and the outdoor season

Fire risk shapes the outdoor calendar here in a way it does not in most states. Governor Cox declared a state of emergency on June 25, 2026, and the State Forester followed with an order banning fireworks discharge statewide from July 2 through July 5, with exceptions for municipalities that designated areas by the deadline and for licensed professional displays. Utah code already limits consumer fireworks to July 2 through 5 and July 22 through 25, between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m., with later cutoffs on the two holidays themselves.

Cities went to drones. Park City ran drone shows at Canyons Village on July 4. Weber State pulled the fireworks out of its Lindquist Family Symphony Pops Concert in Ogden, now in its 47th year, so the night would not risk starting anything in dry grass. Salt Lake City scheduled two of its own, at Jordan Park on July 3 and at Liberty Park on July 24. None of those were our shows, but they mark where this market went. A drone show brings no ignition source and no fallout zone.

Pioneer Day gives you a second July date

July 24 is a state holiday in Utah, and it is a genuine second peak rather than a leftover. The Days of '47 Parade steps off at 9 a.m. on July 24 from South Temple and State Street, runs down 200 East and 900 South, and finishes at Liberty Park. The Days of '47 Rodeo ran July 21 through 25 at the Utah State Fairpark, with a drone and fireworks show at 10:30 p.m. each night. Neighborhood celebrations across the valley fill in around all of it.

That matters for scheduling. July 4 and July 24 are the two hardest nights of the year to book anywhere along the Wasatch Front, and they sit three weeks apart. If your city or your company cannot get one, the other is often still open. Both fill early, so a spring conversation is not too soon for a July date.

University and west side venues

Rice-Eccles Stadium holds 51,444 and is set to host the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2034 Winter Games, running February 10 to 26, the same role it played in 2002. The Jon M. Huntsman Center covers the indoor side of the University of Utah campus. Out in West Valley City, the Maverik Center opened in 1997, hosted Olympic hockey in 2002, and seats up to about 12,000 for a concert. The ECHL Grizzlies left after the 2025-26 season, so that calendar has openings it did not have a year ago, with the Salt Lake City Stars still in residence.

The Maverik Center also has a Ford Theatre configuration that closes the room down to roughly 3,700 seats, which suits a corporate general session better than a full bowl does. On the south end of the valley, The Ballpark at America First Square opened in South Jordan in 2025 with 6,500 fixed seats and a total capacity near 8,000. A ballpark is a clean outdoor site: a known perimeter, a controlled crowd, and an obvious place to set the launch grid.

A home team with no travel line on the invoice

Springville sits 51 miles and roughly 47 minutes south of downtown on I-15. That is a commute, not a tour stop. There are no flights to book, no crew hotels, no per diem, and no out-of-state travel line on your quote. It also means we can do a site visit before you sign anything, stand in the venue with your production lead, and come back on show day already knowing where the trucks park and which door the cases roll through.

On budget, indoor shows in the Salt Lake area generally run $25,000 to $30,000. Outdoor work spans a wider band, $25,000 to $35,000, depending on the site, the run time and how large the picture needs to read. Send us the venue, the date, and the moment in the run of show you want it to land on, and we will price it. Request a quote at /quote.
