The Biggest Drone Light Shows of 2026 (So Far)
Updated: 5 days ago
Drone light shows are having a huge year. From a 33,615-drone world record over China to an 11,000-drone show in Texas that its operator calls the biggest ever flown in America, glowing fleets of drones have become one of the most talked-about ways to light up an event. Here are the biggest drone light shows of 2026 so far.
An 11,000-drone show in Texas, billed as America's biggest
On September 27 to 29, 2026, Sky Elements and Damoda America flew seven shows over three nights in Blue Ridge, Texas, six of them with about 10,000 drones and one with 11,000. Sky Elements says the 11,000-drone show is the largest drone show ever flown in America. Together the shows launched 71,207 drones in one week, a Guinness World Record that beat the previous mark of 55,939.
That figure counts launches across all the shows, not drones in the air at once. The record for the most drones flown at the same time is still the 33,615 over China in May. The week also produced a second record, for the largest mythical creature formed by drones, a dragon built from 10,183 drones that topped the previous mark of 2,247. A Guinness adjudicator verified the flights.
A new world record: 33,615 drones over China
On May 20, 2026, Yufengzhe Technology flew 33,615 drones at once over Dujiangyan, Sichuan, setting three Guinness World Records, the most ever in one show. Earlier in 2026, EHang flew 22,580 from a single computer. Read more about the world's biggest drone show.
Stranger Things takes over Las Vegas
On December 28, 2025, Sky Elements flew a 4,979-drone Vecna over Las Vegas to mark the final season of Netflix's Stranger Things. Guinness World Records lists it as the largest display of a fictional character formed by drones, and Sky Elements billed it as the largest drone show in the US at the time. The UAE rings in 2026 with records
Abu Dhabi welcomed 2026 with a 6,500-drone show at the Sheikh Zayed Festival, while Ras Al Khaimah set a Guinness record for the largest drone phoenix using roughly 2,300 drones, about a thousand of them fitted with pyro.
Las Vegas adds drones to New Year's Eve
For the first time, Las Vegas paired its New Year's fireworks with a 600-drone show near the Strip. See the Las Vegas New Year's Eve drone show.
Coachella's He-Man billboard in the sky
Above the Coachella traffic in April, a 400-drone show spelled out messages like HONK FOR HE-MAN to promote a Masters of the Universe film. See the Coachella drone show.
America's drone show summer
Closer to home, 2026 has been a big year for US drone shows, with America's 250th birthday celebrations, Fourth of July shows, and branded events filling the calendar.
Singapore took its National Day Parade indoors
On August 9, 2026, Singapore's National Day Parade returned to the National Stadium for the first time since 2016 and included its first-ever indoor drone show. About 300 drones flew inside the stadium in sync with electronic artist Jasmine Sokko, with two performers suspended 30 meters above the stadium floor, in front of roughly 42,000 spectators. The parade also ran more than 170 special effects machines, more than 1,600 moving lights and about 50 lasers, billed as its biggest special effects display yet.
The indoor part is what matters for anyone planning an event under a roof. Flying inside takes wind and weather out of the equation, then hands you a hard ceiling, no usable satellite positioning, and an audience sitting far closer to the aircraft than any outdoor crowd would be. Those constraints are why indoor fleets are small and why the flight paths look different from an outdoor show. A parade at that scale doing it in a full stadium is a useful reference point for arenas, convention halls and ballrooms.
The World Cup opened and closed with drones
The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 11 at Estadio Ciudad de Mexico, the ground long known as the Azteca, with Mexico against South Africa. A drone show over Mexico City marked the opening, with the drones painting footballs, trophies and tournament emblems across the night sky.
The tournament ended the same way. Ahead of the final between Argentina and Spain, crowds at Liberty State Park in Jersey City watched drones build the World Cup trophy, the tournament logo, the mascots, football jerseys, the official match ball and the Statue of Liberty against the Manhattan skyline.
Seattle put a live scoreboard in the sky
Seattle ran what Visit Seattle calls the first drone scoreboard in World Cup history. After each of its six matches, on June 15, 19, 24 and 26 and July 1 and 6, Sky Elements flew 400 drones over Seattle Center next to the Space Needle in a 12 minute show that displayed the final score and the flags of the two teams that had just played. Visit Seattle says it was the first time a same day score was built into a drone show. A normal show is designed and validated weeks ahead, so a result that is not known until the match ends has to be built into the flight plan in advance and fly cleanly the same night.
Portugal set the European record
On the opening night of the first Air Invictus festival, June 19, 2026, Spanish drone company Flock Drone Art Studio flew 3,097 drones over Praia de Matosinhos, just outside Porto. A Guinness adjudicator certified two titles on site, the largest sentence formed by multirotor drones, readable for more than 20 seconds, and the largest drone light show in Europe. The previous sentence record was 3,050 drones. Flock said each letter had to be designed to stay legible from the ground, with the drones positioned to centimeter precision.
Nine days earlier Flock had a very different job in Barcelona. On June 10, the centenary of Antoni Gaudi's death, a drone show closed the ceremony in which Pope Leo XIV blessed the Sagrada Familia's Tower of Jesus Christ. Flock flew the drones for a production conceived by Igor Studio, and the fleet drew a portrait of Gaudi that turned toward the basilica, then spelled out his line in Catalan, first love, then technique.
Vienna launched its Eurovision year over Schonbrunn Palace
On April 27, 2026, Vienna marked the start of its run as Eurovision host city with 3,000 drones above Schonbrunn Palace, flown by Dubai based Cyberdrone for about 4,500 people watching from the palace courtyard. The program paid tribute to Austria's three Eurovision winners, Udo Jurgens, Conchita Wurst and JJ, with Jurgens' piano, Wurst's wings and JJ's paper boat, and ended on the Eurovision trophy and the slogan United by Music. Organizers called it the largest drone show ever staged in Austria. The 70th contest itself followed at the Wiener Stadthalle, with the final on May 16.
Theme parks made drones the nightly closer
Disneyland Paris opened Disney Cascade of Lights on March 29, 2026 at Disney Adventure World, its reimagined second park. Built with Dronisos over about two years of co-development, it runs 379 drones over the Adventure Bay lake, 279 of them in the air and 100 floating on the water, alongside water screens, fountains and projections. Dronisos calls it a world first for flying and floating drones in one show.
The bigger story is volume. SeaWorld San Diego scheduled its 600 drone Ocean of Dreams nightly from May 22 through August 9, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay put 400 drones up Friday through Sunday from May 22, Holiday World scheduled 500 drones nightly from June 20, and Dollywood, Six Flags Great America and SeaWorld Orlando all added drone shows to their summer lineups. Parks are treating a drone show as a recurring closer instead of a one off, which puts the load on batteries, charging turnaround and crew.
America's 250th put shows in towns that never had one
On July 1, 2026, PrestoTechnics and Sky Elements produced a 2,500-drone show over BISD Plaza in North Richland Hills, Texas, paired with a fireworks show. Fox News reported images that included George Washington, a bald eagle and a rocket. Organizers moved the celebration off July 4 to avoid a conflict with a World Cup match in Arlington.
Smaller places ran their own. Fremont, California scheduled more than 350 drones over Lake Elizabeth on July 2, and Owensboro, Kentucky planned 300 drones over its downtown riverfront on July 3, the night before the city's fireworks. The 2026 story is less about any single record and more about how many towns now expect a drone show on the calendar at all.
A tribute over New York Harbor
On September 9, 2026, two days before the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Sky Elements flew 2,977 drones over New York Harbor, one for each person killed. The show, 2,977 Lights Over New York Harbor, recreated the Twin Towers in the sky over Lower Manhattan. It was developed with 9/11 families, survivors and first responders, with the New York Foundation for the Arts as fiscal sponsor.
